Enchantment Lakes Wilderness
the Peg 'n Bill Stark story

The Enchantment Lakes Basin in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness high up in the mountains above Leavenworth Washington is one of the most spectaculary beautiful places on earth.  Since their first trip in 1959 Peg and Bill Stark have been returning to make the arduous trek yearly. They usually plan their trip for the first week of October so they can be there for what Bill calls "the golden week" when the larch conifers change color.

This extraordinary couple has spent their treks to this heavenly area capturing the magic with Bill's exceptional photography and Peg's captivating story which has been called the "finest ode to nature ever written." Peg and Bill shared their photographs and story with others through slide presentations.  The response to their shows was so overwhelming that they decided to present it in video for all to enjoy. The result is the video How Deep the High Journey.

Understandably this region  is one of the most popular to hike.  In an effort to protect the delicate alpine environment hiking permits are required to limit the number of visitors and their impact.  This video makes it possible for those unable to make the hike to enjoy some of the magical beauty of the enchantments.  A beautiful soundtrack specially composed by Mike Lynch for this video reflects the different moods of this extraordinary region.
